Whale and Dolphin Conservation

Whale and Dolphin Conservation

Hi everybody!

I thought I’d share that one! I got this in my email box this morning:

WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation) is the leading global charity society dedicated to the conservation and welfare of all whales and dolphins.

In short, they are the world voice for the protection of cetaceans.
They defend these remarkable creatures against the many treats that they face:
-Hunting
-Captivity
-Chemical and noise pollution
-Entanglement in fishing nets
-Climate change

Basically, they raise campaigns, funds. They support every political decision created to help protect whales and dolphins and their habitat. They fight to expose the truth to people and governments about abuses done to the animals.

They advise anyone who would like to make a difference in the cetaceans’ situation and also educates about their way of life, habitat and so on through the media, events, exhibitions, schools initiatives, visitor centres, websites and more.

One way to support them is to donate, or to purchase some gifts in the WDC shop .

You can also get active and participate in all the events created or supported by WDC.

Or you can even join WDC and make a difference. Indeed, you can become a WDC member for just £3 a month! Besides, you get to receive a very cool Supporter pack containing a colour brochure welcoming you to WDC and telling you all about the life saving work that your support will help us achieve, a WDC car sticker, a bag, etc. And, you’ll receive Whale & Dolphin every three months: a fantastic magazine packed with news and features letting you know all the latest news about cetaceans and what your support is enabling them to achieve.

I became a member a year ago as I adopted the female orca Holly. I was convinced by WDC arguments:

  • Oil and gas exploration and production, large marina development, pollution, fisheries and more are increasingly putting pressure on the dolphins and their home. By adopting a dolphin you will build a special link with an individual animal and help us to protect the whole population. Extinction is forever – dolphins cannot be replaced.
  •  Around the world 42 orcas are held in concrete tanks and forced to perform tricks to entertain human visitors and make profit for big companies. WDC has helped ban keeping whales and dolphins captive in Cyprus, Croatia, Costa Rica, Chile and Slovenia. Your whale adoption will enable us to fight until there are no whales and dolphins held in captivity.
  •  In the past more than 100,000 humpbacks were killed by whalers for their oil. Shockingly, despite the ban on commercial whaling, thousands of whales, including humpbacks are still slaughtered every year for their meat . Your whale adoption will enable us to fight until commercial whaling is consigned to the history books – for good.

You can adopt too.  It’s part of the action you can do even though you can’t/don’t participate physically in any events, exhibitions, etc.

I literally jump for joy everytime I open my mailbox and see a letter from WDC! “Yay, I’m gonna get news from Holly!”

It’s not at all like you possess an animal. I don’t control it, Holly is not mine. But with my donation, I know I help WDC protecting her and the other cetaceans.

Why wouldn’t you do it too? 🙂

Oh and, Happy Holidays to you all!

  1. Its like you learn my thoughts! You seem to understand a lot about this, such as you wrote the guide in
it or something. I think that you just can do with a few percent to pressure the
message house a bit, but other than that, this is fantastic blog.
An excellent read. I will certainly be back.
